Practice the Kindness You Want to See

The philosopher, Norman Geisler said, “The moral law is not always the standard by which we treat others, but it is nearly always the standard by which we expect others to treat us.”  Essentially all of us want to be dealt with according to Jesus’ golden rule, "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)

Unfortunately, there is a great deal of inconsideration and rudeness in the world today.  There are too few people living by the golden rule.

There is hope, however.  We don’t have to be helpless victims of the world around us.  We can be the change we want to see, and we can lead the charge in the right direction.  We can decide to model Christlike consideration to the world around us.  We can keep being kind, even if continued rudeness is the response we get.

We can and should be unconditionally considerate and kind.  As Solomon writes, “If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.” (Proverbs 25:21-22)  Let your light shine, live by the golden rule unconditionally, and you may just find that your consistent consideration is contagious. -Paul
