Certainty
Someone said that nothing is certain but death and taxes. These words don’t match what the apostle, John tells us, though.
In 1John 5:12-15, John writes, “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.”
John gives us two assurances in these verses. First, he tells us we that can have certainty of eternal life. Notice who has certainty of eternal life. It’s those who believe in the name of the Son of God. More, it’s those whose belief leads them obedience. Remember that the demons have belief alone, but they don’t have eternal life. (James 2:19)
Secondly, John tells us we can have certainty that God will accomplish his will. Furthermore, if we align our will with his, we can be sure that he will grant our prayers for his will to be done.
In a world of questions, embrace certainty. Find the assurance of eternal life through Jesus. Find the assurance of victory, knowing that your Lord will always accomplish his good will. -Paul
