The Lord Who Upholds Your Hand

Many of us feel anxious about the future and overwhelmed by the troubles of life.  We may feel powerless to solve the complex problems around us.  But we’re not powerless.  We can choose to obey God and submit to him.  God, in turn, will keep us in his love, no matter what we face (Rom 8:38,39).  In Psalm 37, David vouches for God’s care.

If we submit to God, we’ll still face troubles, but God won’t let us be destroyed  by them.  So, David says,  “The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.” (Psa 37:23-24)

If we submit to God, God may not give us affluence, but he will provide for our needs and enable our generosity.  So, David says,  “I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing.” (Psa 37:25-26)

If we submit to God, God will walk with us all the way through this life and grant us an incredible, eternal inheritance.  So, David says, “Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever. For the LORD loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.” (Psa 37:27-28)

The news we read, watch, or listen to can give us a sense of impending doom, but if we seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, God will go before us and deal with the troubles that are out of our power (Mat 6:31-33).  Put God first and know for certain that the God who is with you is greater than all those who are against you (2Ki 6:16).-Paul
