Jesus Offers You Rest
When will life’s problems let up? The bad news is that while the world turns, problems won’t go away.
The good news is that Jesus says we can still find relief if we will come to him. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Mat 11:28)
The worst problems come from sin. Sin enslaves (Joh 8:34), and sin kills (Rom 6:23). Jesus says if we will learn from him and obey him, we will find relief from the heavy burden of sin. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Mat 11:29)
We will have troubles because we follow Jesus (2Tim 3:12). These problems often come in intense waves during periods of testing. The problems of following Jesus can be more bearable, though, because we can carry them in light of the hope that only Jesus can give. “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Mat 11:30)
If you obey Jesus even though you suffer for it, God is pleased with you (1Pe 2:20). The suffering that comes from obeying Jesus is a slight, momentary affliction compared to the reward of following Jesus. “For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.” (2Co 4:17)
You can’t remove problems from the world, but those problems don’t have to get the better of you. You can find peace because you can choose to follow the one who has overcome the world (Joh 16:33). -Paul
