CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE Romans 9:6–9

Have you ever felt like God let you down? You prayed for healing, but it didn’t come. You hoped for a door to open, but it stayed shut. You held onto a dream, but it fell apart. In those moments, it’s natural to wonder: Has God forgotten me?

In Romans 9, the apostle Paul tackles that very question. Looking at his own people—Israel—Paul is heartbroken. These were the people of the covenants, the promises, the prophecies… yet many had rejected Jesus, the Messiah. So Paul asks: If Israel has turned away, has God’s word failed?

Paul’s answer is powerful and clear: “It is not as though the word of God has failed.” (Romans 9:6) Why? Because God’s promises were never based on physical lineage—they were based on faith. Just as Isaac was a child of promise—born not merely by human effort but by God’s word—so are all who believe in Jesus today.

To be a child of the promise is not about tradition, religion, or heritage. It’s about trusting the One God has sent—Jesus Christ. Through faith in Him, we are adopted into God’s family, not by works, but by grace (Ephesians 2:8–9).

And real faith shows. It bears fruit through love. It forgives, serves, and shines the light of Christ. If you’ve received that promise, let your life reflect it. And don’t keep it to yourself—share it. Someone near you needs to hear that God’s promise still stands.

And if you haven’t yet become a child of the promise—you can. Today. Believe the gospel. Turn from sin. Be baptized into Christ. Step into the family of God, and into the future He’s promised.

God’s plan hasn’t failed. His promises are still good. And you are invited to be part of them.
